Gaia - The Prime Realm

"

The tops of the colossal trees, blooming with millions of soft toned bulbs, towered up into the aurora winds. True monoliths of the Fey, a tribute to the primal essences of nature. The contraption fitted to the massive trunk seemed almost alien, like a giant mechanical lizard snaking its way down in a smooth motion. Ania had to go deep into the core of Gaia to find what she sought. Deeper than the elaborate caves dug by the Kazugrö.

The mechanical lizard stuck its tendrils into the earth as the descended into the deep. Lights danced as critters and fungi fled from its path. It slithered through the majestic Undermountain, pillars of crystal intertwined with roots and gigantic mushroom trees lighting the way down. The sight was beautiful yet primal and instinctual. Ania shuddered at the thought of her losing her mind to this place, as so many have done before her.

Description

The Primal Realm is a reflection of the material plane. It overlaps with the real world in places and mimics the contours of Myrth. Features are exaggerated - mountains tower higher and more extreme, forests grow denser and more lush, and the oceans are deeper and more dangerous. And bizzare, magical elements form from the chaotic forces that define the natures of the realm.

Gaia, also known as Prime of the Faerie. It is a magical place of exaggeration and primal instincts. It is a strange ans wonderful wilderness that mimics the natural world, but is often more extreme and dangerous.

From the deep mountain caverns, passages are carved into Gaia, gateways to the hidden depths of the realm. From the dense forests, pathways are formed into the intricate network of the realm. Any place that is wild and primal can serve as a gateway into the Prime realm and some parts of Myrth are known to be overlap with Gaia more than others.

Time in Gaia is a strange and fluid concept. It is not bound by the usual laws of the material realm. Time moves differently here, and the flow of time is not linear. It is a place where the past, present and future are all intertwined and can be manipulated by the whims of the gods.

The concepts of time, cause and effect, and the nature of the passing moments are obscured, skewed and ambivalent. In some instances it seems to be a realm untouched by change, and in contrast it can be more chaotic than Nox itself. It is common to see cities appear overnight as if a hundred years have passed, only to disappear like mist before the sun, as if its rise was a mere dream.

Its nature has Gaia locked in a state of perpetual motion in a motionless bubble. Seconds can translate to hours in the material world, and equally an adventure of a decade may be but a few weeks. As such the denizens of Gaia are foreign to the concepts of time and industrial progress.

At the core of Gaia, the largest of the known World Trees manifest as a towering pillar. Its canopy stretches far across the clouds, streaming its branches into the sky. Its roots dig deep into the earth, reaching down into the depths of the Undermountain. Its trunk is a monolith of stone and crystal.

Deep below the soil, where the sun of Gaia never touches lies Undermountain. Massive caverns open up to foreign, magical places. Untouched time, they are bubbles of history, capturing the essences of every primal and modern age of Myrth. Within it lives everything that ever was, and everything that will ever be, as if a picture painted to encapsulate the primal form of what it is to represent - pocket dimentions called Visions.

It is close to impossible to navigate the tunnels of the Undermountain and only a handful of its Visions are frequented. The largest of the Visions are inhabited by a strange, Dwarf-like folk, called the Kazugrö. These resourceful, yet simple creatures spend their time endlessly digging and excavating the caverns of Undermountain, and is rumoured to be the only denizens who can map the tunnels that stretch between worlds.

The fields of Gaia are vast and varied. Mountains, forests and lakes meld together in pronounced and amplified mix of biodiversity and ecology. Scattered across the land are settlements and cities, the homes of the native Malkovians - a People known for their aggression and everlasting urge to conquer and colonize. Imperial Malkovian troops constantly march across the meadows searching for tribes to conquer.

The most powerful creatures of Gaia are the Arch-Fey. They are beings of extremes and enslaved by their emotions. They are feared and revered, each having their own domains of power and influence. Their power is comparable to that of the gods of the material realm, yet limited in reach - bound within the confines of the plane. Their cities are magnificent, floating islands inhabited by their followers - species and ancestries from all over the cosmos. Each city manifests the deepest emotions of its patron and are known for their extreme formations and influence over their inhabitants.

The Arch-Fey are slaves to their ambitions and desires. Their emotions are always an extreme, almost overly exaggerated version of itself, which can be a very dangerous experience as they manifest those emotions into their dominions.

But the source of all the Arch-Fey’s power is what is known as The Primordial. It is what drives the magic of the realm, and what keeps it linked to Myrth. No one knows what The Primordial truly is, but it is believed to be sentient - to some extent at least. It grants power based on merit. The most common belief is that The Primordial is one of the ancient creator gods, resting at the core of the cosmos and that Gaia is the manifestation of its dreams.
