Agaea
Agaea
Ancient, vast and unforgiving. The Great Sands stretch across the map as far as the eye can see. It is an unforgiving land, breeding unforgiving people. Its settlements ancient remnants of a forgotten age. Its culture deep, with bloodlines far reaching. The great City, Atenaa - The Jewel of the Dessert, The City of Dragons, at its core.
Culture
Section titled “Culture”Agaea is a theocratic empire where the Church of Martivir holds a lot of power. The realm is deeply connected to draconic heritage, with Dragonborn and Kobolds forming the core of its population alongside Humans and Elves. The culture venerates strength, wisdom, and the draconic legacy that flows through the land.
The Church of Martivir governs through a theocratic system, with clerics and religious leaders holding both spiritual and temporal authority. Though all settlements are free to govern themselves, the Dragon god’s clergy play a pivotal role in governance. The capital city of Atenaa serves as the spiritual and political center, where the Church’s influence radiates outward to all corners of the realm.
Ecology
Section titled “Ecology”Agaea is characterized by its harsh desert climate, with vast expanses of sand dunes, dry desert, rocky plateaus, and mountain ranges. Though this didn’t use to be the case. Fossil records indicate that this region was once lush and green, with vast forests and rivers. Yet now, the vast stretches of sand are broken up by dry riverbeds, pools of salt flats and rocky crevasses.
The Dragon’s Head and Dragon’s Tail mountains form natural boundaries and provide valuable resources, including exotic metals and the mystical Dragon Tears - magical stones that are highly prized across Myrth. The realm’s ecology has adapted to the arid conditions, with hardy desert plants and creatures that have learned to survive in the extreme environment.
Though seemingly empty of natural life, the desert is home to a multitude of predatory and magical beasts, like the Dire Moles and Burrow Worms.
History
Section titled “History”In the previous age, Agaea was a lush tropical realm, with rainforests covering most of the land from the Long mountains to the Sea of Shadows. At the foot of what is now called the Elf mountains stood one of the great World trees - a mystical anchor between Myrth and the Myst Aether.
After the destruction of the World Tree at Bonaduic, the land was scarred. It rapidly shifted to become the seemingly barren wasteland it is today. But the magical scars caused much more than the climate to fail. From the destruction, the flora and fauna that remained got twisted and evolved into new, chaotic lifeforms.
