Callad manifests as a figure of shifting shadows and whispered secrets. Her form is small in stature, like that of a halfling. Clad in black leather, a dull white mask protrudes from under her hood, glowing, golden pools watching from behind the veil. The “Pallid Oath” that strikes fear into the hearts of those who recognize it.
It is said that all those who gaze upon the mask are doomed to the chaos of her will, forever changed by her silver tongue. “No” is never an answer to her questions, on account if death.
Instead of manifesting in person, she prefers to make her will known through subtle signs and omens, or through her network of shadowy agents who move unseen through the world.
Her presence brings with it the weight of hidden knowledge and the cold certainty that every secret has its price.
Common Worship
Section titled “Common Worship”Prayers summoning The Pallid Oath frequently escape the lips of those who have been betrayed. Though the goddess and her followers excel at subterfuge, the ultimate irony is that she may turn her own treachery against those who first sought her aid, teaching them the true cost of dealing with shadows.
The followers of Callad are often looked upon with suspicion, as thieves and deceivers. But even though the clergy may be distrusted in general, they are often still regarded as powerful players and vessels. And in less moral societies her followers are seen as a great boon, for she is not bound by the laws of the world, but her own. Their masters are free to do as they please, and the laws of the land are often a mere formality.
Ruthlessness, ambition, and slyness are the true virtues of those who serve her.
Wherever secrets are traded and shadows hold sway, Callad is called upon to acknowledge the seeker’s need for advantage. Whether to grant some form of stealth or to provide protection from those who would expose hidden dealings, Callad receives many prayers from those who operate in the shadows.
Her followers are those who have learned that knowledge is power, who have seen the corruption of the world and chosen to exploit it rather than fight it, and who have learned that subterfuge and secrecy are more reliable than the fickle nature of honor. They include thieves who steal not for greed but for survival, assassins who serve justice through the blade, and those who have endured great betrayal and emerged stronger for having learned to trust no one.
Often times those who associate with her, will also associate with her twin sister, Firna, the goddess of murder, assassination, and shadows.
