Nahua’s primary form is that of vermin itself. A slight manifestation might be seen in the form of a swarm of rats or locusts, their chittering and buzzing creating a symphony of dread that heralds the coming of disaster. The more his presence manifests, the more the swarm takes shape, until he becomes a shifting, giant, bipedal creature animated through endless swirls of vermin, each individual creature a part of his divine consciousness and a harbinger of the suffering to come.
Nahua manifests decay and disaster, a force of pestilence and famine that cannot be contained. It is said that Nahua once was a powerful spirit, shape shifter and beast-speaker with the ability to talk to vermin, which he used to threaten the ancient mortals with plague and pestilence. This became his domain after his ascension.
His powers were the ones who created the first vampire by cursing them with his own blood, a testament to his his ability to twist the natural order to serve his own dark purposes.
His presence brings with it the stench of decay and the certainty that disaster will always find a way to strike.
Common Worship
Section titled “Common Worship”The followers of Nahua are looked upon with both fear and revulsion, as the harbingers of disaster decay. His worshippers are seen as deviants and cultists, and often accused of summoning forth plagues or being vampires.
His primary church, known as the Cult of the Grotto, is an elusive organization that operates in the shadows, spreading their influence through whispered promises and dark rituals. They are sought out by those seeking knowledge of curses or who wish to trade their souls for power.
There are many who believe that the only way to ensure good crop and prosperity, a tribute should be given to the god of famine and pestilence. They offer up a portion of their yield at the altar of Nahua to appease him and his vermin and have them stay away from their lands.
But more commonly, Nahua is regarded with fear and is avoided. Vermin is seen as his foothold on the land, his eyes and ears in the realms of mortals-sparking superstitions. The creatures are killed and eradicated in fear that the god of Disaster gain too much power and is able to summon forth a true plague.
Wherever disaster strikes and pestilence spreads, Nahua is called upon to guide the cultist and unleash the power of decay. Whether to grant some form of divine pestilence or to provide the knowledge to spread disease and famine, the Vermin King receives prayers from those seeking to bring suffering to their enemies, spread plague among their foes, or ensure that the natural order is disrupted by disaster.
The followers of Nahua are those who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of disaster. They include shamans who have learned to commune with the spirits of disease, cultists who have dedicated their lives to spreading his influence, vampires who owe their existence to his dark power, death worshippers who seek to understand the mysteries of decay, and exterminators who have learned to harness the power of vermin for their own purposes.
