Years go by before the madness is realized. Faint whispers in the night, the sound of breaking glass, the feeling of being watched. Clearly thinking, clearly looking, you can see the changes the maddness brings to your mind, but still you cannot quite grasp it. Still it unfolds slowly, each day bringing you closer to abomination.
Such is the manifestations of Nod, the Dream Stealer. His will is beyond mortal comprehension and his form beyond understanding. Those who look upon him can only see the fog swirl as the madness takes them, their eyes refusing to fathom what they have witnessed.
Insidious; Always looming; Always waiting. He is the black cloud of madness, a malevolent entity that drifts across the realms like a living shadow, his presence heralded by the crackling of dark, sometimes purple sparks of lightning that dance within his form like the electrical impulses of a diseased brain.
He is rarely seen in the realms, but when he does manifest, it is already too late and your mind has been consumed.
Common Worship
Section titled “Common Worship”The nature of Nod is antithetical to the ordered minds of most mortals. In fact, knowledge of his sects and influences isn’t a polite topic for conversation, and even then is only spoken of in whispers, for to speak his name too loudly is to invite his attention, and his attention brings only madness and despair.
Those who know, know to fear his powers, as dabbling in the writings of his followers often ends in the madness of the reader, their minds consumed by the dark truths that lurk within the pages of his forbidden texts. His name is spoken as a curse when faced with unknown horrors by those who know it, though doing so holds no meaning to any of his devout, for they have already surrendered their sanity to his service.
The followers of Nod are those who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of madness, who have seen power and bliss in the chaos of its embrace. They include evil diviners who have learned to commune with the most primal and ancient of spirits, shamans who have dedicated their lives to spreading his influence, and those suffering from madness who have found in Nod a kindred spirit and a source of power.
